Diversity and Inclusion

Acknowledgement of Country

Directions Workforce Solutions and its staff are proud to live and work on the Whadjuk Noongar Boodjar Mia. We recognise the Noongar people as the traditional guardians of this land, their ancient songlines and ties to this country. We humbly respect Noongar elders and leaders, both past and present, and we extend that respect to all Indigenous Australians.

Our Commitment

Directions Workforce Solutions is committed to building a stronger, more inclusive workforce for Western Australians, and believes diversity drives innovation and resilience. By partnering with communities and employers, Directions create tailored pathways – from culturally safe training to supported employment – that empower the individual.

Direction’s approach is evidence-based and guided by respect. Indigenous Australian are Indigenous-led and culturally safe, inclusive training removes barriers, and accessible practices enable everyone to succeed. We measure success through specific outcomes, such as participation, and engagement, and continuously refine our strategies.

Our Philosophy

Directions believe that individuals from diverse backgrounds enrich our workforce, and the team champions equality and culture-first engagement. The team also recognises that by tailoring our methods for Indigenous Australians, multi-cultural communities, women and people living with disability, this brings out the best in people.

A truly inclusive workplace embraces and values diversity of thought, and mandatory cultural responsiveness training helps all staff thrive. The Directions team embed these values in everything they do – supporting wellbeing, respect, and belonging for every apprentice and trainee, and the businesses that hire them.

Our Approach

Directions ‘s programs leverage the group-training model’s flexibility, and the team work with employers to provide on-the-job adjustments for workers. Staff and employers are trained in cultural competence, so the workplace becomes ready and safe. Mentor networks connect new entrants with experienced peers to guide them. Throughout training, Directions provide wraparound supports, such as buddy systems, ensuring each person has what they need to complete their qualification. Everyone deserves to succeed!

Our Metrics

Directions tracks outcomes rigorously. Our metrics include the number of trainees and apprentices from each target group, completion rates, job placements with partner employers, retention and trainee satisfaction. We disaggregate data by group to ensure transparency and identify any disparities in participation or outcomes. This information is reviewed regularly to assess the effectiveness of our programs, identify areas requiring additional support and inform continuous improvement.

Aboriginal Engagement Plan

Directions Workforce Solutions’ Aboriginal Engagement Plan provides a structured framework for increasing Indigenous Australian participation across employment, apprenticeships, traineeships and workforce development initiatives. The plan outlines practical actions to attract, recruit, support and retain Indigenous Australian employees through culturally informed recruitment practices, individual mentoring, pastoral care, and ongoing engagement with host employers.

The framework also focuses on developing strong partnerships with Aboriginal businesses, community organisations, Traditional Owners and local stakeholders to ensure opportunities are created collaboratively and respond to community needs. It includes measures to strengthen cultural capability within our organisation and across host employers through awareness training, culturally safe workplace practices, and regular consultation. Finally, the plan itself is continuously updated and evolving to reflect constant feedback.
