Working as a Glass and Glazing Tradesperson you will cut, shape and install glass used in windows, doors, skylights and mirrors. You may fit glass into prefabricated products or alternatively install or repair glass in residential or commercial buildings.

The training

To become a trade certified Glazing Tradesperson, you generally complete an apprenticeship which results in a Certificate III in Glass and Glazing. Both apprenticeships usually take 48 months to complete.

The apprenticeship program features on the job training under the supervision of a qualified Glazing Tradesperson and off the job training at a registered training provider such as a WA TAFE college.

 Skills you will learn

During the training program to become a Glazing Tradesperson, you will learn practical skills and underpinning knowledge. A training program will be created for you that will include such competencies as how to:

  • Provide first aid

  • Cut thin glass by hand

  • Process glass by basic machines

  • Manually move glass

  • Make measurements and calculations

  • Participate in environmentally sustainable work practices

  • Communicate in the workplace

  • Work in a team

  • Apply WHS requirements, policies and procedures in the construction industry

  • Move single glass sheets by mechanical means

  • Assemble non-security and security screens and grilles

  • Glaze and reglaze residential windows and doors

  • Assemble glazing products

  • Select, cut and process materials for glazing products

  • Assess glass and glazing requirements

  • Install shower screens

  • Install residential windows and doors

  • Install mirrors and glass splashbacks

  • Install commercial glazing products

  • Conduct commercial and structural reglazing

  • Read and interpret work documents

  • Work safely at heights

  • Apply basic levelling procedures
